For your convenience, the following is a summary of the changes in the
freshwater fishing regulations for New York State affecting the Western
New York region. These changes will be in effect from October 1, 2000 until
September 30, 2002:

Catch & Release trout fishing regulations have been established for
1.7 miles of Oatka Creek, from Union Street to Wheatland Center Rd,
Monroe County.

Catch & Release season for black bass from the first Saturday in May
through the Friday before the third Saturday in June has been established
for Conesus, Hemlock, Canadice, Honeoye, Canandaigua, Keuka and Seneca
Lakes.

The minimum length for brown trout, rainbow trout, chinook salmon, coho
salmon and pink salmon in Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River including
tributaries to the first barrier impassable by fish has been increased
from 9" to 15". Exceptions to this regulation are Irondequoit Creek in
Monroe County, Salmon River and Little Sandy Creek in Oswego County, Skinner
Creek and Lindsey Creek in Oswego and Jefferson counties, and the Black
River in Jefferson County.

In low water conditions use Midges 16-22 (Black, Grey, Grizzley) and
Scuds 16-18 Pink, Olive, Tan, Flashback, Orange. Also try small streamers.
If surface activity is noticed, try Griffith’s Gnat 18-22 or Blue-winged
Olive 16-20.
